In 1344 Charles IV began the construction of a Gothic cathedral.

Vitus chapter, which later became an important cultural and administrative institution. The importance of the cathedral grew especially after the establishment of the Prague bishopric in 973 and the founding of the body of canons - the St. About the year 925 Prince Vaclav I founded a Romanesque rotunda here which after 1060 was converted into a basilica with three naves and two steeples. The cathedral is the third church consecrated to the same saint on the identical site. The cathedral is a place of interment of remains of provincial patron saints, sovereigns, noblemen and archbishops. Apart from religious services the coronations of Czech kings and queens also took place in here. Vitus Cathedral is the largest and the most important temple in Prague. There is also the chapel of King Wenceslas, where there is info board about it.St. There are apps that you can download, or books that tell you about the cathedral, but if you like lots of info, a audio-guide may be worth it, but look at the various options before purchasing.

A walk around Prague Castle can be a whole day. There is no information boards, they were taken out to try and get people to buy audio-guides, which are really expensive and you only get 3hrs.

We on the hand walked through with our ticket, and had space to walk around take in the statues, decoration, etc. All groups go and stand in a small area that is cordon off, and everyone is fighting to get a picture of the cathedral, from a distant. We were glad we did as tour groups are not allowed to walk around the cathedral. After doing some background reading, we decided against a tour and decided to just go and see it. There is lots of information of what to see and do, or not what to do or see at Prague Castle.
